A little clarity before you travel

Good questions.
Clear answers.

Find help with cover, medical conditions, policy documents and claims.

Am I covered if I travel abroad for medical treatment?

Standard travel insurance usually excludes trips taken for medical treatment. For dental, cosmetic, elective or fertility treatment abroad, see our treatment abroad cover, arranged through Pulse Globetrotter.

Can I get cover with a medical condition?

You can explore options through our specialist quote service. You will need to answer medical questions so the insurer can assess your circumstances. Availability, premiums and terms depend on that assessment.

What is a pre-existing medical condition?

This can include an illness, injury or condition for which you have had symptoms, treatment or medication before taking out cover. Definitions vary, so follow the questions and guidance provided by the insurer and disclose everything requested.

What is the difference between single trip and annual cover?

Single-trip cover is for one journey. An annual multi-trip policy covers multiple trips during its period of insurance, subject to the maximum length of each trip and the other limits shown in the policy.

How do I know what my policy covers?

Check the policy wording, schedule and insurance product information document. These explain the benefits, limits, exclusions and excesses. Ask the provider if anything is unclear before you buy.

What if my documents have not arrived or are missing?

Contact your policy provider or call us on 01592 858386. We can help you find the right contact to request another copy before you travel.

What should I do if a policy detail is wrong?

Read your documents as soon as you receive them. Tell your provider immediately if a detail needs correcting so it can be reviewed before you travel.

Who do I call if I need to make a claim?

Use the claims number in your policy documents. For urgent medical assistance abroad, use the insurer’s emergency assistance number. If you need help finding the right number, call our team on 01592 858386.

What is a policy excess?

An excess is the amount you may need to pay towards a claim. The amount and how it applies are set out in your policy schedule and wording, and may differ between sections of cover.

What if my health changes after I buy cover?

Contact your insurer or policy provider as soon as possible. Follow the change-of-health requirements in your policy so the provider can explain whether your cover or terms need to change.

Does a non-travelling relative’s health matter?

It may affect cover if their health could lead you to cancel or cut short your trip. Read the policy’s rules for non-travelling relatives and discuss the circumstances with the provider before buying.
