Over 60 Travel Insurance

Over 60 travel insurance can be more difficult to acquire than standard travel insurance. The reason for this is that many travel insurance companies may not be prepared to offer older people travel insurance due to any pre-existing medical conditions that they may have and increased risk of illness whilst travelling.

At Our Travel Insurance we believe that everyone deserves the right to travel with peace of mind and the knowledge that they are properly insured - no matter what age they are!

Why do I need over 60 travel insurance?

If you are over the age of 60, you may be starting to plan trips to places you’ve always wanted to visit, but did not have the time to travel to in the past. When planning your trips you should ensure you organise comprehensive travel insurance.

Accidents can happen to anyone, whether you are 20 or 60. It is essential to be properly insured in the event that an accident takes place so that you can have peace of mind and enjoy your holiday experience.

Medical costs can vary from one country to another and can be very expensive, especially in countries such as the USA. To eliminate the possibility of picking up a hospital bill amounting to several thousands of pounds, you should get a travel insurance policy that can help you cover any unexpected expenses.

Our Travel Insurance offers single trip and annual multi-trip policies with no age limits.

What if I am over 60 and have a medical condition?

At Our Travel Insurance we understand the difficulties associated with finding appropriate travel insurance cover if you are over 60 and/or have a pre-existing medical condition. This is why we specialise in offering travel insurance policies that meet your needs.

When you go through our medical screening process, you will be asked a series of questions where you will be able to add any medical conditions you may have with ease. You will then be presented with quotations from specialist medical travel insurance providers who are able to offer you cover and you can choose the policy which best suits your particular needs.

How do I choose the best over 60s travel cover for me?

Before buying over 60 holiday insurance, there are a number of things to consider.

Firstly, you should consider which cover is most suitable. You may find that an annual policy could work out cheaper than single trip policies if you are planning two or more trips a year.

On the other hand, if you are only travelling to European countries, a policy that only offers cover to Europe may work out better value for you than a worldwide policy

Travel tips for 60+

Travelling is fun, inspiring as well as enriching. It makes you realise how small the world really is.

However, it is important that you plan properly so that you can enjoy your holiday without any complications.

Here are our top travel tips that you can keep in mind when embarking on your travels.

Safety while travelling abroad

Always keep someone informed as to where you are going. You can inform the hotel reception if you are travelling alone.

Try to keep in touch with the members of your family on a regular basis through phone, email or social media.

Whilst out exploring different places, try and have a fully-charged cell phone with you.

If you are in an unfamiliar place, stay close to open public places, especially at night.

Planning your trip

Book your accommodation in advance to ensure you have somewhere to stay at least for the first night.

If you have been ill you will need to ensure your GP thinks you are fit to travel. Speak to your GP about any vaccinations that you may need and any adjustments you may need to make when taking your medication due to time differentials.

You can use this visit to get your doctor’s approval to travel. You can also find out about any vaccinations that you may need.

If you can plan to arrive at your destination during the day, this will prevent you from having to wander around an unfamiliar area at night.

Managing your health whilst travelling

Ensure that you carry sufficient quantities of medicine with you at all times. If you have to extend your stay for a couple of days or you are delayed, you should not run out of medication.

Drink plenty of water so that you remain well hydrated and try to avoid alcoholic beverages.

Avoid eating street food, especially if it has not been prepared and cooked in front of you.

Before flying, book a comfortable seat that provides you with sufficient legroom.

This will enable you to stretch and exercise your legs to help prevent deep vein thrombosis.

Inform your airline beforehand if you are required to follow any diet restrictions.

Other helpful tips for over 60s

Try and avoid using your credit card at internet cafes or at public wi-fi hotspots to help prevent yourself from being a victim of identity theft.

Remember to carry your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) with you if you are travelling within Europe.

Always trust your gut feeling. If something does not feel right to you, avoid doing it.
